Very enjoyable stay at a lovely quiet country location. The staff were so friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. Room was very comfortable and well appointed. Food was excellent, staff were even prepared to prepare us Affogato for dessert ...compliments to the chef for his specialty pastas.

The Royal Oak is a really great place to stay. The staff couldn't do enough for us and the rooms were very clean as was the bedding. We particularly liked the huge shower in the bathroom as well. Only minor issue was the noise from the room above whenever anyone was there but other than that excellent. And the breakfasts and dinners were superb - again a minor issue in that the dinner menu was somewhat limited especially for vegetarians. The village of Gillamoor and the surrounding Moors are wonderful as well and I would thoroughly recommend staying at The Royal Oak.

Limited parking so everyone seems to park on road. Cosy interior and welcoming young staff. Meals well presented and tasty. My fish pie with cheesy mash very good and he wolfed down his steak pie as he said gravy was fab! Would like to stay here ....

5 Star * New Management and Chef.. and it shows! The rooms were recently upgraded which was positive but now the food is another level. Really high quality ingredients put together in an unfussy style, if you are staying the breakfast is also superb. A must visit if you want really good food served by an exceptionally friendly front of house team. In my opinion the whole place has a different feel ( I've stayed there a few times in the last year and feel compelled to write a review because it's improved so much) and it's definitely somewhere I would recommend. It's right in the heart of the North York Moors and offers great value given how luxurious the rooms are and how delicious the food is. This is such a good alternative for people looking to stay in and around the Helmsley and Pickering area.

Visited the Royal Oak in the evening with family. Comprehensive and tempting menu with various dietary options including GF. Plenty of under £20 mains. Well presented and cooked. Friendly welcome and attentive service. Plenty of on street parking but I'm thinking this could be busy during holiday times.

Visited this evening for a meal and had a lovely time. Great comfy pub atmosphere, the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Service was great! We had the mussels and bread and dip platter for starters which were beautiful. For mains I couldn't recommend the steak pie or fish and chips enough!! Special mention to the chunky chips. Desserts were also fabulous. A great selection to cater for everyone. Will definitely be returning soon!

Lovely to see this pub with so much potential begin to re-establish its self. We live locally and after some disappointing visits, stopped going sometime ago. It hasn’t had the best of reputations with many locals. The new team have injected it with some passion, care and delicious food. The Damone family have an awesome reputation in Leeds, and it’s great to see Salvo bring this quality to our area. We had an excellent lunch there and were also impressed to see the team give great service to a huge group of walkers.
